Catch Up - September 18, 2012

Today is September 18, 2012.  Happy 74th Anniversary to Momu and Popa.
To catch folks up - last week Mark and Max flew up from Florida and spent 2 days in Connecticut.  Dad also arrived in CT. They had nice visits at MB, although Momu is still feeling crappy and looking pretty bad these days.  However, seeing Max cheered her up which was great even though it was temporary.

Last Friday and Saturday Lysbeth and Mark Kennedy visited from Michigan.  I met them both there on Friday afternoon.  I arrived ahead of them and told Momu they were on their way and she said tell them not to come. I said, too late, they will be here in about 5 minutes.  Momu welcomed their visit.  They looked through lots of photographs and spoke about good stories from the past.  Momu starting dozing during the visit, which was a first for her, or at least the first time I had witnessed that.  Popa stayed in bed, but was not sleeping during their visit.  They came back Saturday morning and spent most of the time with Popa since he was awake and Momu was in bed and did not get dressed.  Lysbeth left me a nice voicemal message about their Saturday visit and I am glad they made the trip.

Dan and I will continue to visit as often as our schedules allow, which lately has been only about 1-2 times a week.

Lastly, this Friday marks the one year date for when Momu was admitted to Meadowbrook (Popa followed just 2 days later).  I have  made the decision to bring the blog through to the one year mark and then end the blog.  For those of you who read this, which unfortunately are not many, please feel free to reach out to me if you want to check in on how they are doing.  Or better yet, you can call or write them letters.

Tuesday September 4, 2012

So my blogging has been lax of late.   I haven't blogged about my last few visits...

Dan and I went over today around 4 - every time I walked into Meadowbrook this past year I always said to myself at least my grandparents are able to be in their rooms and don't have to sit out by the nurses desk - well today was that day.  Momu was sitting by the nurses station and quite honestly looked pretty bad - she was shaking and groaning loudly.  She was trying to make herself throw up for some strange reason.  Her eyes were closed and for the first time in a year she said she did not feel like herself and actually felt like dying.  This was a hard day for me.  I stood next to her and got her some ice.  The nurses pulled me aside and said she was in the hallway because she was driving Popa crazy.  Momu told me she has been having nightmares.  But she could not tell me what they were about.  The nurse overhead and told me Momu has been up late because when she tries to sleep she dreams about something happening to someone in the family.  I will explore this next visit.

We went to the room to see Popa who was pretty good today. He was talking to Dan a bit and asked about the kids.  He again asked about his financial situation and Dan told him everything was being taken care of and he said good.

Their weights have both gone down.  Popa is 111.6 and Momu for the first time in a long time has lost quite a bit of weight and is down to 106.6.

I told them of some upcoming visits and Popa was happy and Momu said she did not want to see anyone.  But we all know that changes daily!

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

They were both awake when I arrived so that was good.  But Momu wasn't dressed.   Both of them asked me to get the nurse so I did.  Momu wanted Xanax - she was not feeling well and it looked like she was really uncomfortable - damn side pain.  Popa said he was waiting for his medicine but told the nurse he did not know 'what he ordered' and proceeded to ask Momu.   She asked him if he ordered an egg cream and at that point I just had to silently laugh to myself.  Popa then got angry with her.   Popa said he hasn't been feeling well lately and it looks like he may have lost a bit more weight.  The nurses were busy delivering dinner some did not have a chance to ask for his last weigh in.

Momu than told me some of her clothes were missing again and she asked me to bring her checkbook because she wants to call a lock smith and have a lock put on her closet door.

I gave Momu an individual wine and she was happy with that - on my way out I made sure to tell the nurse.  I also spoke with Amy the social worker and told her about the clothes.  She will talk to Momu tomorrow and walk her down to check the laundry.

That is all for now - to be continued .... Next visit should be Thursday

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

I am done with my long distance triathlon and will be getting back to a more regular schedule that will include MB visits.

I went over today - Popa woke up when I said hello and Momu was in the bathroom.  She is still having pretty significant side pain.

Popa told me his appetite was getting better.  He asked me what I was cooking up lately and I said nothing - too hot to cook in the summer.  But I told him I would make whatever he wanted and he asked for potato pancakes and promised to eat them if I made them.  I will make them this week.

Momu was happy for the company and chatted about random things.  She really loved watching the Olympics.

I told both of them that I swam in the Hudson River and ran across the George Washington bridge.  Momu told me to make sure I took a lot of showers.

Momu told me her cell phone was broken.  I checked and the volume was turned off.  She was happy.

I gave her the DVDs that Dad bought and she said she would watch tonight when Popa was awake.  I made sure she knew she can ask the staff for help with the DVD player!

I also spoke to a nurse and learned that the doctor told them to keep the blinds up to keep the room bright and get fresh air - they both sat outside today after lunch!

I reminded them Christopher turned 20 yesterday and Momu said she was going to call him tonig.

Wednesday August 1, 2012

Dan and I went over today. Momu had bad side pain and by the smell in the room I will bet she is a bit stopped up.  The nurses gave her something. She also was complaining about her right shoulder and I told her to tell the nurses after dinner.  Popa was awake and a bit confused.  He kept asking me what channel he needs to put on to get his money.  I said you can't get money from tv.  He was getting so angry with himself because he could not express what he was thinking.  About 5 minutes later he was asking for all his financial paperwork and again asking which tv channel he needed to get his money.   Then he finally said msnbc and then we realized what he wanted - to watch the financial numbers. We watched the Olympics instead.

So he wasn't sleeping but he wasn't really clear either.  Momu kept saying he lost his mind and he was getting angry at her.  It was almost amusing.

I forgot my phone and will show them pictures of the Haas grandkids another visit - Momu was so happy to hear that lysbeth and mark were grandparents and then went on to talk about her very fond memories of her best friend Helen.

Dad visited Meadowbrook this weekend but first stopped off at the Pittsfield house to meet the realtor.
He received an offer for sale and then the CT Department of Social Services approval for the sale. A week/weekend will be scheduled in late August to review and dispose of furniture and things in the house.

I had told dad that Poppa snapped out of his sleep mode on Friday and when he arrived Saturday it was another day that had both Momu and Poppa alert and interactive. He showed them photos of Christine, Christopher and his vacation to Prague, and after Christopher left viewed photos of  Vienna.

On Sunday Poppa was back in his sleep mode and Momu was enjoying watching the Olympics with dad. He also showed her a DVD of two concerts from Vienna. Poppa woke up towards the end of the concert and when I stopped by was semi alert again. I brought them peaches and candies and stuff, also hair dye for Momu.

Friday July 27, 2012

Went over myself at 4 and was shocked to arrive to an awake and alert Popa.  Momu wasn't dressed again (3rd time this week) - oh yeah, I missed a blog entry - went over 2 times this week to find them both sleeping and Momu tired, sending me away.

Anyway, this is all about Popa today - Dementia is a fucking crazy ass disease - excuse my french.  Today Popa was totally clear - he talked the entire time I was there and he even understood that he hasn't been well, lost about 25 pounds, etc.  He knew where I worked, about Phillip's surgery, about Samantha graduating in December, about Dan's job.

Popa kept saying he needed to get to 109 Mountain View drive to get some things.  Then Momu chimed in and said she wanted to go home - she hasn't said that in quite some time, I think because Popa has been so silent.  In any event, I ignored them both.  I know Popa's clarity is temporary, but it was nice to be able to talk to him.  He actually cracked a few jokes with me.

Dad visits them tomorrow and they were both excited.  I made sure to remind Momu a dozen times to get dressed.  Her hair is in desperate need to color so I will buy that and make her hair appt next week.

Time to watch the Olympics

Tuesday July 24, 2012

I am repeating myself - "thank goodness I live close to MB". Phillip and I arrived at 4. Both in bed but Momu opened her eyes and said "I promise to be awake tomorrow when you come". She wasn't even dressed. I dropped off the chocolate and goldfish I brought and said goodbye.

I can't visit tomorrow but I will go back hopefully on Thursday for a visit.

Even under the blankets (yes it was about 96 degrees today) I could see that Popa looked even skinnier than the last time I saw him.

Tuesday July, 2012

Got a voicemail from Popa, with Momu in the background. After Popa saying 'hello' about 20 times before he told Momu nobody was answering, I heard Momu telling him to tell me not to come because she was sick.

Momu had her side pain again on Sunday when I was there and because she gave up soda she wasnt sure why she was having pain.

I will check back on them tomorrow.

Sunday July 15, 2012

I forgot to blog my last few visits - oh well

Phillip and I went for a visit today - both were sleeping but Momu got up when she saw Phillip. Momu asked about his arm and hockey, etc.

The nurse came in to take Popa to get weighed. 114.8 - yikes but he is not eating anything and his legs are looking like twigs.

Not much else to report.

Wednesday July 4, 2012

Dan and I went over this afternoon. Both were in bed but Momu quickly got up. After a little bit Popa also got out of bed and sat in the chair but quickly fell asleep in the chair. When we arrived he said he hasn't seen Dan in a while and forgot what he looked like. He then started to get agitated because he could not find the book he was reading (no he is not reading a book). But Momu chimed in and said to me that she was happy he was reading again - oh boy!

I had a glass of wine with Momu and Dan poured Popa a cup of beer which went untouched. We asked him if he wanted a snack and he said "I don't know." Then he told Dan he was really confused. His speech is also a bit slurred lately. He looked really thin today so Dan went to the nurses station and found out his last weigh in, which was earlier this week, was 118 pounds which is 4 pounds less than a few weeks ago.

We watched some tv on food network and Momu repeated her story about how she used to boil her meatballs and then learned to put them in the oven.

I also was looking for her snacks and couldn't find them and knew there was no way thre could have eaten them so quickly - turns out she put them in her closet because she ate too much and got a belly ache.

I showed Momu pictures of dad, Chris and Christopher in Prague and she liked them but then said they really need to go to London and Paris!

While we were watching tv we saw an ad did Hebrew national hotdogs and thre both said yum - so on our next visit we will bring them a hotdog with sauerkraut and mustard.

Friday June 29, 2012

Today was Samantha's last visit before she headed back to NC on Saturday morning.  We brought candy, chips and popcorn for Momu (and Popa - maybe he will eat some candy).  Upon Momu's request, we also 8x10 copies of Samantha's and Phillip's graduation pictures and they are now on the wall.

Momu was in a cheerful mood - Popa continues to not engage in any conversation.  Today's visit was after dinner, so we did not get a chance to have Popa get out of bed, which he does to go to the dining room to eat dinner.

It was an uneventful visit - nothing else to report.

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Tuesday June 26, 2012

After receiving calls from Momu on Friday and Sunday asking me not to come because she wasn't feeling too great - I went over tonight.  Samantha came with me and she was in a good mood and chatty.  I need to replenish all the candy because it is completely gone.

Popa continues to stay in bed all the time and continues to look frail - Momu tried to get him up and then finally gave up and said she would just let him sleep.  Wow!

There was a wheel chair in the room and when I asked about it, Popa did not know anything about it and then Momu said they were going to use it to take him for therapy. But I really don't think that is happening.

Not much else to report -

Wednesday June 20, 2012

Samamtha went solo to MB because of my schedule.  She said it was a 'sad' day.  When she arrived, Popa asked her how long she was in town for.  He then started talking about the 'big party' they had last night. He turned to Momu and asked her 'didn't we have a big party last night'.  Then turned to Samantha and asked her isn't that why she was in town.  Then he asked her if she was sleeping over.  He kept going on and on and finally Momu said there was no party and then Popa said 'why is my mind kidding me'?

Samantha said he was truly confused.  And Momu wasn't that upset about it either.  I think perhaps the wine Samantha brought over helped.  Popa then confirmed that Samantha was his great granddaughter, the first one, the best one - Popa also asked for Dan as he always does, I believe part of the visit routine.

Momu then repeated that she was taking Popa downstairs for physical therapy because he has to get stronger so she can take care of him at home.

Momu does know that Paul and Paula are visiting tomorrow and knows they are bringing some sandwiches.

Momu told Samantha stories about how Dad bit another kid at one his birthday parties.  How they were robbed at their office, etc.

That's all folks - oh yeah, it was about 100 degrees today and Samantha said it was about 85 in their room!

Friday June 15, 2012

Samantha went to MB just after their dinner time, 5:45.  She went over with the intent of doing Momu's fingernails with the fake press on nails that Momu wanted.  Samantha got their and found out Momu had her nails painted earlier in the day, so the fake nails are being returned.

As soon as Samantha arrived, Momu 'told' her to get pizza and beer because they did not like their egg salad sandwiches that were served for dinner.  Samantha picked up a small pie and a can of beer and delivered them back to MB. Momu ate, Popa started to eat, but then ended up spitting out what he did try to eat.  A bit digusting actually.

Samantha was going to go back for a Saturday visit (I was out of town all weekend), but Momu left me her famous voice mail telling me she was in a rotten mood and would not be good company so don't come.

Let's see what this week brings.

Thursday, June 14, 2012

Thursday June 14, 2012

Samantha and I went over to MB.  The digital photo frame is plugged in, on slide show mode, and will continuously show the 150 pictures loaded into the frame - as long as it stays plugged in.

Momu LOVED it and had a smile and comment with every single picture.

She went to an activity today - music and wine and had a glass of wine and was in a happy mood.  Much better than yesterday when she called me to tell me not to come because she was 'down'.

Momu told me that Popa is going to get physical therapy so he can get strong and they can go home.  She said it a few times but was not really dwelling on it too much.  Samantha chimed in and said she is better off where they are.

We walked them to the small dining room - it is very difficult for Popa to get out of bed - he has no strength at all and felt very boney to me when I helped him up by his arms.

Amy was at the nurses station and I asked about hs weight.  She looked at both of their charts and Momu is holding steady at 114lbs - she is on a weekly weigh in.  Popa, however, was 122.2 at his last weigh in and is on a monthly weigh in. Amy is going to have that switched since it is he who is losing weight.  Amy also told me that Momu had wine and we talked about how it makes her happy.  So I am going to get a large bottle and have the nurses keep it in the fridge.  I think mentally, one glass of wine at night is better than a tiny small amount of gin.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Monday June 11, 2012

Samantha and I went over around 4 today.  Popa was sound asleep and Momu in the bathroom.  We tried to wake Popa but he wasn't having it.  He looked pretty bad today.  He is wasting away and has no strength what so ever.

Momu is mad at him for getting old and is disgusted that he is not eating and does not want to do anything.

I asked Momu about her hearing aids and she said they don't work and she is still trying to find the advertisement she saw in the Readers Digest.  I told her they do work and then she changed the subject.  I brought her an individual bottle of wine and she wanted it immediately!

The nurse came in to ask if they were going to the small dining room for dinner and I said yes. But as it got closer to 5, Popa was really not wanting to do anything, but finally got up because Momu wanted to.

Momu did mention about 4 times that Dad said they can't go home -which, to me is actually a good sign that she has remembered this.  She said she was depressed about that, but she did not act depressed during out visit.

I need to ask about their last weigh in and will do that on my next visit.

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Dan and I arrived at 3:45 today.  I brought alot of snacks and other things Momu wanted:  Hair Color, Makeup, Pistachios, Pizza flavored goldfish (her favorite), pringles, jelly beans and alot of assorted chocolates.  I also brought her an individual small bottle of wine and I must say, wine is the cure all for everything.

I poured her the glass and gave her some pizza goldfish and within a few minutes she was in a good mood, even though she kept repeating the fact that Dad is not letting her go home, which is good in the fact that she remembers him saying that.

Popa is growing his beard, it is quite funny, but he likes it as does she.

She is excited to see Hunter and I showed them both the recent picture of him.  I said to think of all the good things vs. the negative.

Dan did speak with the nurses to confirm that Popa is not allowed in the dining room due to his constant spitting.  The nurses tried to give him a bag and that did not work.  So for the time being, they will be eating in their room.  Momu can dine alone in the dining room, but I don't think she will do that.

Momu also said that if she could drive, she would leave Popa at MB and visit him daily like another residents family does.  But of course I told her she can't drive.  I truly think she realizes the situation and will have her ups and downs along the way.

Friday May 25, 2012

Samantha is home - yipppeeeee.  She came with me to MB today.  We got there and Momu was dressed nicely in a skirt and blouse and watching The Kardashians on E - too freaking funny!
Momu asked me for her checkbook about 6 times and always because she wants to purchase new hearing aides she saw advertised either in a magazine or on TV.  Her hearing test at MB was supposed to be today, but apparently that did not happen.  Ugh.

Samantha showed Momu lots of pictures of animals from The Humane Society, especially kitty cat's.

Gotta love the fact Momu is using an iphone.
Popa was pretty silent today.  He was happy to see Samantha, but did not get out of bed until it was time to go to the dining room.

Momu expects Popa's beard to be noticeable within the next month.

Momu said that she spoke with Dad and he told her Heather and Hunter will be visiting next Saturday. Momu was very excited.  I then showed Momu and Popa the picture of Hunter with his new haircut and they can't wait to see them!

The candy I brought over on Monday night was gone, so I took all the containers and will fill with snacks this weekend and bring back.  Momu's request included Pistachios, Jelly Beans, Chocolates. I can do that!

Happy Memorial Day and Unofficial start to the summer of 2012!

Monday May 21, 2012

Dan and I arrived at 4:00. Popa was really sleeping soundly. He usually wakes up when we say hello - not today. Momu was in the bathroom and did not hear me yelling her name. Dan and I decided to leave and wait in the lobby. We went back in 10 minutes later and he was still sleeping and she was still in the bathroom. This time Popa woke up. He looked really thin and I asked about his last weigh in. Found out they only get weighed once a month so no update since May 1st.

Popa said Momu was probably reading in the bathroom so I knocked and screamed louder that we were here. Please be glad the Internet has not yet developed smell-o-vision. Momu decided to have soda and is paying the price - pain in side. I told her to stop. She agreed.

I showed her prom pictures and she liked that a lot. She saw Phillips sling and then went into a healthy bone story which of course let to the 'getting paid $.01 to drink her friends milk' story. Then I said that is what she needs to drink instead of soda - she liked that idea.

Momu told me a secret - Popa is growing a beard. Dan asked him why and he replied "I want to look distinguished". Then Momu said Popa was making her old before her time.

We walked them to the dining room - Popa and Dan were ahead of us and all of a sudden Popa's pants fell to the ground. Dan quickly pulled them up. Momu yelling at him to wear a belt - but he was wearing a belt! So he really must have lost more weight.

Momu gave me the name of a hearing aide company that I will look up for her. She cannot stand it anymore and really wants help.

What a visit.

Sunday May 13, 2012

Happy Mother's Day.  Dan and I went for a quick visit to MB while Phillip took a quick nap (he really can't be left alone for the next few weeks).  Momu was in the bathroom putting her earrings on when we arrived and when she came out, she had dark blue circles under her eyes.  I told her she needed to go back and fix her eye makeup - she did, but did not do a great job, oh well.

I brought Momu a box of chocolates and then put in the opera DVD that she wanted to watch and could not figure out on her own.  Il Volo is quite the group and I enjoyed watching the first 4 songs.  Momu really liked it as well.  Momu repeated this at least 8 times: This group met at a talent show, they are all teenagers.

Popa was in bed rolled over and not interested.  He really was not looking too good today - I wanted to check on his last weigh in, but the nurses were very busy with dinner, etc.

That's all folks.

Saturday/Sunday May 5 and 6, 2012

Dad, Chris and Christopher arriveda t MB on Saturday after lunch.  Momu and Popa sat in the lobby at first.

Then everyone except Popa went outside into the courtyard.  Phillip and I arrived around 3 and Popa was still in the lobby asleep. As soon as we got there, Momu started in on the fact that Popa has changed, he is not the same man, etc, etc. etc.  but now she wanted a divorce.  We all had to chuckle, what else are we supposed to do with that comment.  Momu was able to convince Popa to come outside.  I had brought some small individual bottles of wine and we all shared that - Momu immediately felt better not only because she had a glass of wine, but Popa also had a few sips.  The conversation was just regular stuff - Momu still mentioned going home, but did not harp on it at all. She realizes that more people come to visit because of where she is now.

Dad and Chris and Christopher left after M&P were seating in the dining room and took Christopher to the train (to go back into the city).  They then came to my house were we had some dinner and some birthday cake (early celebration for Dad)

On Sunday, Dad and Chris went back to MB for lunch (brought in sandwiches), more BLTs which M&P enjoyed.  Momu was not in a good mood initially, but that got better quickly and they had a nice visit for the entire afternoon before heading home.

I will probably not be visiting MB this week - Phillip is having shoulder surgery tomorrow and needs 24hr care.  That's all for a little while.....

Wednesday May 2, 2012

What a difference a day makes.  To quote one of my favorite movies .....
With Room 108, it is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get inside (the doors).  Both M&P were in bed when Dan and I arrived, but they quickly woke up and Momu was very cheerful and in a great mood.

She wanted to sit on the couches in the lobby, but we told her they were full.  She said 'really' and I said 'you snooze you loose'.

Their candy levels are down to zero, so I will bring some more tomorrow. (I have a stash from 1/2 price Easter candy that I snatched up at local stores).  Momu said she would like a beer and hopefully it won't make her side hurt.  I don't think it will, in fact, I think it may have been the black licorice - she ate way too much of that.

Momu was in repeat mode today - she commented on my blouse at least 6 times in 30 minutes.  She also told me she would  like to get some of her rings made bigger since they don't fit over her knuckles. She also wants to get some skirts for the spring and summer.  So that will be a weekend project that hopefully Chris can help with this weekend.

We showed her video of Samantha's foster kitten, 14 days old, being bottle fed.  She loved that.  She said she would like to see her kitty again and then said, well maybe that won't happen.  On the way to the dining room, she told me she would like to go home, but that she also liked seeing me and Dan often.  I told her she had to make a list of pros and cons about all life evens and sometimes they balance out and sometimes they don't.  I truly think she has accepted the fact she won't be going home.

Popa continues to decline with his weight, down to an even 126.  He requested milkshake for tomorrow, chocolate, so I will bring him that.  He looked a bit wrinkly today in the face, but I think that is what happens when you loose what little fat cells you have left.

Until the next visit......

Tuesday May 1, 2012

I received a call from Momu at 12:45.  She told me not to come visit today because she was feeling low and would be bad company.  I haven't received this call in a few weeks, so my guess is something happened with Popa during the night to set her off.  My other guess is that she probably did not get dressed.

I will give her a call this afternoon and get a better status - part of me wants to visit and just tell her I did not get her message.

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Saturday April 28, 2012

Dan and I went for a visit.  Both were in bed when we arrived.  Dad had mentioned he could not get ahold of them by cell phone or room phone.  The cell phone was off.  I turned it on and put the charger in.  I told Momu that in order for the cell phone to work it had to be turned on, she laughed.

Popa is still not eating much at all.  Momu got her hair done on Thursday and it looked fine - she was happy with it.

I wanted to take them outside in the courtyard, but Popa said he was too cold.  So the compromise was to sit in the lobby, which we did.  Momu loves that area and I think really likes the fact that means Popa can't lie in bed.  It is still quite uncomfortable for Popa to sit, but he managed.

Dinner tonight was lasagne and he promised to eat.  I would ask him tomorrow but he won't remember.  I think I will bring him another BLT at my next visit.

Momu said she won't have beer since the doctor told her to stay away from fizz and it was not worth the pain.  I may see if she will have a small glass of wine, but if not, she knows she has her gin at the nurses station.  She said the xanax was good enough and helps her sleep.

That is all, uneventful visit - but they are always happy to see us and Popa always, from the minute we get there, asks the same 2 questions:  are you staying for dinner and will we see you tomorrow.

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Tuesday April 24, 2012

Phillip and I stopped to get 2 B.L.T. sandwiches and off to MB we went. Traffic was crazy and the sandwich maker took a while and I was running late from work so we did not get there until 4:30. We walked to their room only to find out they were already in the dining room - so early?

They were happy with the sandwich but had to wait to eat until dinner started because there was no CNA in the dining room yet and I learned there has to be to respond if something happened.

They both snuck bites of the sandwich until 5:00 came. Popa pulled off all the crust and ate almost 1/2. Momu ate her entire 1/2. I took the 2nd one home for tomorrow - hope it will still be good for them.

We chatted for a little while and then left.

Still no word on her hearing doctor appt.

I went to MB solo this afternoon.  Momu called me on Friday night asking me to bring her hair color so I stopped at CVS on my way and got her hair color and some pringles.  Momu was happy with the color and I asked her if she had put in the slip for her hair appt and she did not know what I was talking about.  So I filled out the appt slip for her and she will get her hair done on Tuesday.  We chatted a bit before heading outside.  Momu said she wanted to go home already, but that was only after she was talking about how MB controlled the amount of gin she was allowed to have.  I then asked her if she wanted to go home alone and she said no.  I said she had to make a list of pros and cons and being with Popa was a top pro and she agreed.  She then was talking alot about her mother and father and some other friends and family.  She said she was going to call Mario on Sunday.  She also said that Donna did come for a visit on Friday night.

It was a lovely afternoon today so we sat outside for about 45 minutes.  Popa is having a very hard time sitting upright - he has no strength at all so it is hard for him to stay upright.  Momu kept saying how he has no appetite.  So I asked him what he wanted to eat and Momu then chimed in with how she wishes she could make him a BLT and when Popa heard that his face lit up.  So I will be bringing BLTs over tomorrow.  I showed them lots of pictures of the Florida youngsters and they really really want them to visit.  The courtyard is great and the kids could bring chalk and run around as much as they wanted.

Until tomorrow....

Thursday April 19, 2012

I worked late so Dan and Phillip went over to MB.  They brought with them some candy and also the tv ear phone cushions and piano book that Dad mailed to me.

They both wanted to go the lobby, so Dan and Phillip took them outside the courtyard.  Momu kept referring to the lobby as 'downstairs'.  They sat outside until dinner time.  (I don't know why my pictures are sideways)

Momu said she was feeling better - she said the doctor told her no more 'fizz' meaning soda.  She asked for her checkbook, but did not reference anything about needing it for when she goes home.

Momu told Dan and Phillip that Donna was coming for a visit tonight - not sure if that is accurate.

Monday April 16, 2012

Dan and I arrived at MB at 4 - Popa fast asleep and Momu in the bathroom. Popa was pretty out of it and had a hard time speaking - he was slurring his words. He asked me to get him a shake which I did - he proceeded to drink a few sips and then the disgusting spitting started and did not stop.

I asked him if Momu was feeling ok and he thought she was not. He wasn't sure if she got dressed today - he thought yes. Dan and I stayed waiting for Momu to come out. About 15 minutes later we heard very loud moans from the bathroom and thst is when we said goodbye to Popa.

I checked with the nurse on my way out and they did cut back Momus iron from 3 daily to 1.

Tuesday and Wednesday April 10 and 11, 2012

Dad's 2 day visit.....

Dad spent Monday night in Pittsfield at their home to have plumbing fixed then drove over to Meadowbrook on Tuesday morning to spend two days with Momu and Poppa. Momu was dressed and smiling and Poppa fast asleep as unusual but when awaken seemed pleased that Dad was there. He ate lunch with them and met their new friend Leon, a 102 year old congenial man. The family spent time in the patio and the lobby living room and all was OK until Momu developed her side of stomach pain and went to lie down in her room. Around 4:30 she was better and wanted to go out to dinner, which was OK with Dad. Since Poppa doesn't eat much these days and losing weight Chinese food was the selection to help him eat. Unfortunately, the restaurant we chose didn't serve beer or liquor so we left. Momu's pain returned as we drove to the Cambridge House Bar and Grill. She wanted to go in but sat in the car as Poppa and Dad navigated the long winding ramp. Poppa sat in the lobby as Dad checked on Momu for the next 15 minutes...no go, so he took out food and drove back to Meadowbrook, just across the street. Poppa ate with dad and when Momu's pain subsided she also ate some dinner.

The next day dad arrived arrive around 10:30 and Momu was in bed with dad both sleeping. When dad woke them up she was depressed...Poppa had soiled the bed last night and she was disgusted with him saying "I;m going home without him...he's not the man I married, etc. etc. etc." After she dressed herself she seemed a bit better and when dad gave her the earrings Christine sent she was back to normal...she loved them all and said she will call her Christine to thank her. We then went to lunch and Leon was at another table to make room for me.. The grilled chicken sandwich and macaroni salad was good but Poppa once again ate almost nothing. The patio was next followed by watching a video of "Il Volo" in their room. These three Italian teenagers are amazing opera singers and Momu loved it, especially when they sang "Mama". Poppa was asleep throughout the showing.

Momu was suffering off and on all day with her side pain but around 4:30 said she felt fine and wanted to go out to dinner. Dad drove to the Cambridge House and Momu and Poppa negotiated the ramp with the help of dad. Momu was totally out of breathe and sat outside for a while dad and Poppa were seated at the table. Momu joined the family and drinks were ordered (martini for Momu and dad needed a martini too). Momu developed her pain once again after we ordered dinner and spent the next 15 minutes in the bathroom. When she came out she insisted on waiting in the car and dad accompanied her and returned to Poppa at the table. Dad and Poppa shoved down their food and wrapped the rest to go, leaving behind Momu's martini. When they returned to Meadowbrook Momu and Poppa sat in the lobby as dad checked them in and placed food in their room. Momu was feeling better and dad headed by to my house for an hour of rest before leaving for home.

These amazing episodes actually produced, for the first time a comment from Momu "I guess I'm better off here"...perhaps a breakthrough. Dad informed the nurse of this entire two day event and she will run tests on Momu in the morning.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Phillip and I went over this afternoon - Momu's left side is really hurting again - the nurse came in and is pretty sure it could be constipation, but Momu insists that it is not.  In any event, the nurse was going to give her 2 stool softeners as party of her evening medicine since Momu did not want to take any milk of magnesia.  They are also going to stop the iron pill tonight since that is also very binding.  Bottom line is that Momu needs to drink through out the day and she does not.  She also doesn't walk, so sitting with no liquids is a recipe for disaester.

Popa seems to be aware of his weight from yesterdays weigh in and drank a milk shake and had oreos while we were visiting.  He said he just has to force the meals down and has to gain some weight back.  He is not looking all that great.  Very thin.

The Kindle is going back - Momu liked the device, and could not believe how light it was, but  had a hard time pressing the page turn buttons and also said she prefers paper.

They were dining in their room this evening because of her pain.  She continues to yell at him with his bad habits.  While I try to intervene and tell her he can't control  I will say the spitting is a bit much and pretty gross.  But the good news is he knows to do it directly into the garbage can.

I checked to find out when her hearing test was going to happen and because it was dinner time, the staff was busy with meal feedings, etc so they will check and let me know next time.

They both received letters from the State of Connecticut confirming they are now registered to vote in CT for the next election.  I am guessing this was prompted by the Medicaid process.

Sunday April 8, 2012

The Easter Bunny brought some treats - cold beer, popcorn, jelly beans, Swedish fish and candy fruit slices. Dan, Phillip and me had an afternoon visit - we watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

We actually joked a bit today about various things one being 'age' - Momu really wants Popa to 'snap out of it'. I said he is 95! and she said 'so'. I said people age differently and they should be thankful they both know who each other is! She agreed!

At 3:00 the nurse came into weigh both of them....Momu is 109. Popa at 126 (Proof he is not eating)

I showed them both pictures of Mark at Law School graduation, Hunter and Maya at their lemonade stand and Max and his finger puppets and also at baseball game. They loved seeing the pictures!!

I showed Momu the small kindle and I told her I am getting it for her. She said fine until she asked how much it was. I am getting it anyway and will just tell it was $20 bucks.

That's it for now

Friday April 6, 2012

Popa called around 5:20 and left a voicemail on my cell- he told me not to come because Momu was not feeling well. Momu was in the background telling him what to say. He also said to call back letting him know I got the message - I called back and of course they did not answer.

Based on the time they called it means they did not go to the dining room and I am sure that means momu did not get dressed.

I will check in tomorrow

Wednesday April 4, 2012

Dan got on an earlier flight home so we both went to MB this afternoon. M@P both in good spirits. The both had their eye exams today. Now just waiting for the hearing doctor to come hopefully soon.

Snack delivery today included pistachios, kit Kats, and Pringles. I also brought Momu a book called Year of Wonders - about the flu plague in 1918. She remembers that event and this book is very good so I know she will enjoy it.

Speaking about reading - I did one last tour of all the silent auction baskets - I was outbid on all the baskets I bid on yesterday - I rebid on one wine basket and then bid on a basket I missed yesterday - a Kindle basket - if I win I will give to Momu - she will love it and I have a flash drive of 1200 books to chose from. If I don't win I may buy one for her anyway.

Fun conversation today - we joked a lot - I demonstrated some yoga balance moves and Momu and Popa were impressed.

Lots of stories about her family

Good visit

Tuesday April 3, 2012

I made the mistake of telling Momu I was getting my pistol permit for recreational target shooting.  She got very upset and called Dad on Sunday all worried.  She left me a message today on my cell and wanted to explain why she got so upset next time I visited.  So I went over today and told her I changed my mind. She was relieved and then explained how she was held up in an elevator and it was very very scary.

As of last night, Momu's pulse oxygen level has been a bit low and she used oxygen last night.  Today she looked a bit tired and she told me it feels like she just went for a run and is out of breath.  I had the nurse check the level prior to dinner and it was again low at 92, but anything above 90 is ok to be mobile.  The nurse said they heard some stuff in her chest, so she may have a some bronchitis and will monitor.

MB is having a silent auction fundraiser.  There are 48 baskets out in the lobby for people to bid on.  I placed 4 bids for only the baskets that had some wine in them.  The auction ends tomorrow - there were alot of bidding activity, which is good for MB but I am sure that means I won't win (donate) any money.

Momu agained talked about teaching ESL and Popa tutoring math - I said I don't think that is going to happen and pointed to Popa in bed.  She said, oh yeah, not that Popa, the other more alert Popa can still teach.

I told her I got stuck in traffic for 30 minutes on my way over because of a car accident.  That triggered her talking about getting her drivers license again.  I flat out said she would not be driving again.  She said "you don't think so" and I said "I no so, not going to happen"

Saturday March 31, 2012

Dan and I went over this afternoon.  They were both in bed but quickly got up and even Popa came over to sit in the chair.  He lasted 10 minutes and then went back to lie down.

Momu continued with her plan of teaching ESL and having Popa tutor math - Dan turned to her and said, "I don't think he is going to be tutoring anyone anytime soon" as Popa was lying in bed.  Momu said he would snap out of it.  She continues to talk about going home - I really either just ignore her and talk about something else, or if she is persistent (which she has not been at all) I will say she needs to talk to the doctor.

I learned today that Popa's aunt had a vegetarian restaurant in New York - interesting.

Any family or friends reading this - calls to The Krasnows are appreciated - their cell phone had no activity except for one call from Dad earlier this week.

My visits are becoming less frequent as a result of trying to juggle work, my race training activities, my doctor treatments for my back, etc.  I feel extremely guilty only going 2 or 3 times a week and really hope others find some time to visit now that the weather is getting nice.

Monday, March 26, 2012

Monday March 26, 2012

Phillip and I went over to MB and had a nice visit.  Momu was chatty again today - I played her a video that Dad had ask me to play for her.  She laughed.  I gave her a beer for her after dinner drink.  She then referenced the fact if she were home she would be able to have her beer and gin - she basically said she just felt a bit captive at MB.  I told her I understood.

Momu is reading  a book about Sid Caesar (probably spelled wrong) so she referenced comedians quite a bit today and on Saturday.  Today, however, she stated she was reading the book at least 6 times in the time we were there.

I forgot to mention that Momu cut Popa's hair - it is as short as when the hairdresser did it and Momu agreed to the fact she was losing her touch.  We laughed about it, he as one big bald spot on the right side of his head.

Popa asked when Dad was coming for a visit next - I said I did not know but said he called today.  Popa did not remember and then said, oh yes, I think I did speak with him today.  We then talked about how the  brain is powerful and funny - that there long term memory is pretty good but they both can't remember what they did 4 hours ago - they both agreed.

She gave me 2 pair of pants back that she bought when Chris was visiting - she said there were too low on the waste.  I returned them and got a store credit that she can use later - I will take her at some point.

They have a new gentleman sitting at their dining room table - he is 102 and is very talkative which is great.

Not much else going on today - until next time...

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Saturday March 24, 2012

All 3 of us (Dan, Phillip and me) went to visit. For a change their door was open. Popa in bed and momu reading in her chair.

They were both in upbeat moods. Momu referenced going home. This time she said she would teach ESL to kids while popa tutored math - this will bring income in. She said her previous idea of having college students renting rooms has changed because she did not want anyone living in the house.

Lots of stories about lots or random stuff but all good memories for her.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Dan and I went over for a quick afternoon visit - lights out, hot as hell in the room, popa sleeping and momu in the bathroom.  I told them I wanted to sit outside before their dinner, Momu said she was too tired and started to get back into bed.  But as we started to chat, she got up and sat in a chair.  She said her shoulder was feeling better and the therapist gave her exercises to do in her room.  She was full of repeated stories/facts today.  Dan and I are still amazed at how the brain works and that she can say the same thing multiple times w/in a minute and not even know.

Todays stories were about going home, getting a cat, having college students live in the house for income, etc.  I then told her she needed 24 hour care and college students are not equipped to do that. She said she would use the room fee and pay for care but I said she needed more than a few hours a day.  She just brushed it off.  Morale of the story is it does not matter what we say because she retains absolutely nothing in the short term.  Long term is another story as she began to explain the plot of the movie 'sleepless in seattle'. Wow.

Still no fix on hearing aids - nobody was around to ask as the nurses were tending to dinner as we left.  Will iniquire next time.

Tuesday March 13, 2012

Because of my schedule I made a rare after dinner visit in between activities.   They were finishing dinner and I encouraged them to go outside since it was still 67 degrees. Popa got cold after 15 minutes so we went inside but stayed in the lobby area.

I delivered their candy as requested.

Momu was in rare form of story repeats today - some old, some new, but each was repeated at least 4 times- but she was happy and talkative which is all good. Popa pretty silent and really tired looking. Momu did tell me she forced him outside earlier today after lunch which is great!

I did not know that my Dad had a parakeete or a dog (which had flees apparently).

She thought that because dad did not hear any negative things from her recent blood test she got to go home.  I told her NO and that they are still evaluationg her and she has a meeting with all the doctors and staff in a few weeks.  She did not press the issue at all.

We had a nice visit.  I am wondering if they changed her meds because the past 2 weeks have been pretty darn good.

Sunday March 11, 2012

What a glorious day - I took Phillip, Lucy and Daisy over to MB for a vist.  I took M&P outside and we sat in the courtyard for over an hour - it was great.  The dogs were free to roam around since there was nobody else outside.

Momu was using her cane and looked pretty steady today.  She said she was mad at Popa today but did not tell me why.  I asked him and he said "she is always mad".  Momu said she was going to get pizza when she got home, so I immediately ordered a pizza from across the street.
We went inside and they enjoyed their pizza and the cold beer I had brought for her.
Popa ate about 1/2 of a small slice while Momu ate 2 large slices and gave some of that to the dogs.  I left them in the nice light dining area as I said goodbye.  I told Momu they had books in this room, so she was looking around and said they would walk back to their rooms later.

Tomorrow I need to replenish the candy - it is gone.  More black licorice and reeses on order.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Thursday March 7, 2012

I walked into a sauna this afternoon. I raced from work to home to MB to get here in time to take them outside. Only to arrive and Momu had a bad pain in her side. The nurse came into check her and gave her some Tylenol for the pain.

I then realized Momu had Popas khaki pants on and boy did we get a good laugh at that.

As requested I brought Momu black licorice and Reese's and Kit Kats for Popa.

Momu's pain was better as I left but we did not get a chance to sit outside.

Tonight they will be attending a jazz music concert after dinner.

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Wednesday March 7, 2012

I brought over momu's new cell phone - she liked the bigger buttons.
I also brought her some new under garments and she promised to try them on.
I told them I am forcing them outside tomorrow before dinner - supposed to be 60 degrees.
We chatted about misc things - she is now content with her checkbook situation. She absolutely loved the weekend visit with Paul, Paula, Chris and Dad. She is still happy about her new clothes. Actually she was happy in general today.

Popa lost a tooth that hopefully will be fixed when the dentist sees him.
Momu said she goes to physical therapy daily for her shoulder - I need to ask nurse about that frequency. Momu also used her cane versus walker today. She says she needs to practice with the cane before going home.

Monday, February 27, 2012

Monday February 26, 2012

Dan and I visited today.  We arrived, both in bed but we quickly got them up.  Popa asked that we put on Judge Judy and then he walked from bed and sat in the chair, which was good.  Momu and I looked at all the Oscar fashions on my iPad which was alot of fun.  She watched last night and really liked seeing everyone dressed up.

I brought over some more Pistachios, a can of mixed nuts and some chocolates.

Dan confirmed with the nurse that they are NOT banned from the dining room, which is good because it is the only time they get out of their room.

Momu again is making the connection with getting her checkbooks and then going home and getting a new white kitty called Katie. I am convinced these thoughts are on automatic pilot and just words.

As I was walking with her down to the dining room, for the first time, she admitted to feeling very tired and said she guesses it comes with age, well DUH.

Dinner tonight was choice of Shrimp Stir Fry or Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

I wrote down the E Entertainment channel so she can watch the Oscar Fashion Recap with Joan Rivers tonight.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Saturday February 25, 2012

Momu in a good mood today. She is watching "cutest pet-athon" on Animal Planet and laughing out loud.

I brought over some more snacks - while Momu proclaims to like salty vs. sweet I must say she loves the gummy orange slices - I have brought them a few times already and today she probably ate 12 pieces in an hour and Popa ate a few.

Popa was not talkative at all today. I did call Mark while I was there and Momu wished him well on his upcoming exam. Popa said a quick hello as well.

The story today (triggered by the TV we were watching) was: Momu is getting a white cat since she already has a black one. The name will be Katie. She repeated this 5 times w/in the hour.

I left her a beer for her to have after dinner.

I walked them to the dining room - so what I was told earlier this week about them not allowed in there is not all that accurate. So they will continue to go. Tonight's dinner was Hot Dogs and beans or Chicken on a Bun.

Momu also claims some clothes have disappeared but I don't quite believe it.

Her shoulder hurts and she says she went to the therapy room and got some heat lamp therapy. She said it did not help but I think it takes time.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Wednesday February 22, 2012

At 3:55 when I arrived tv off and both sound asleep. I left and chatted with nurse - she told me they are not allowed in the dining room because of Popas spitting. The nurse suggested having them come to one of the rooms off the hallway. But honestly that won't happen since people in there are being fed.

I walked back to room and still asleep even when I made some noise and said hello.

Can't visit tomorrow.

Sunday, February 19, 2012

Sunday February 19, 2012

My stomach bug is finally over - 4 days was enough.
I got to MB at 3 today hoping to get them outside 48 and sunny. No way - Popa asked about the weather and I told him and asked him to go outside to get fresh air for 5 minutes. He laughed and said no thanks. Then Popa asked the 2 questions he asks every time I visit: 1. Are you eating with us and 2. Are you coming back tomorrow.

Popa asked when Peter was coming back and I told them 2 weeks. Momu then asked is that because he is traveling and I said yes.

Momu had a headache but did not want to take anything. At least she was dressed today.
Within 5 minutes Momu asked me about the checkbook, told me she wanted to go home and she will get a new kitten.
I did not respond except to tell her the checks are being mailed to me.
She asked me to return the shoes we recently bought. I will just bring them home and take her out another day to look for new ones.
Momu also found out that Doc not only paints but also plays the piano quite well - Momu is very envious.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Wednesday February 15, 2012

I arrived at 4 with lots of goodies: potato chips, pretzels, chip clips, Reese's, Kitkat, Hershey's and one cold beer.

Both were in bed - tv off.

The nurses stopped me to ask if I could get Momu to go to dining room - she is not sleeping at night because she does nothing during the day.

That was my plan today except Momu was not dressed and refused to get dressed. So in a turn of events Popa got up and started watching TV. Judge Judy.

As we were watching Momu was telling Popa to tell me to go home. Popa got up to ask her why and they argued and he yelled at her because he wanted me to stay. He said there were two people in the room and he wanted me to stay. She said he was being selfish. He said she was being ridiculous. Momu then got up to go to the bathroom. I thought she would stay in there until I was gone. Nope. She came out and went back to bed. Then she got up grabbed her headphones and sat in her chair. Then she said she can't take 'him' anymore. Bottom line is he soiled himself in bed again so that is the constant trigger for her. I told her not getting dressed was not going to make her feel better. As I was ready to walk Popa down to the dining room I brought over the beer and chips - she took both very quickly. I am glad i stayed. I told her i would be back tomorrow and she had better be dressed.

It was just one of those visits.

I got home and just had to have a cold beer!

Monday, February 13, 2012

Monday February 13, 2012

Dan and Phillip (Phillip is home for a quick 48 hour visit) arrived at 4.  Both M&P were in bed.  Momu immediately got out of bed and started talking about traveling to Europe and how much fun she had.  Momu said it is always best to eat the food in the country you are visiting - hmmm, no shit - oops, pardon me.  Then she asked Dan if he gained weight.

She went on about the checkbook, credit cards, needing money etc.

Momu admired how much Phillip had grown up.

Dinner arrived and unfortunately they are eating in their room again.  Momu said it was more relaxing, but I believe it has to do with one of the servers being mean to Popa - I will get to the bottom of it on my next visit.  Staying in their room 24/7 is just not an option.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Saturday February 11, 2012

3:45 arrival Momu in night gown watching Murder She Wrote and eating pistachios, so the cold beer I brought over was perfect.

Today she is angry about Popa being a child, not depressed. I told her I would make sure she saw the staff psychiatrist.

I asked Popa what kind of treat I could bring him and he did not know. He told me to ask Momu.

Popa then asked for some money. I told him he did not need any and he said "are you sure?" I said they haven't kicked you out yet so it must be paid for. He said I was right. He is in bed, dressed but under the covers because he is cold.

None of the rings I brought over fit over her knuckle.

Have ipad will travel - we were able to FaceTime with max, maya, hunter and heather - Momu and Popa enjoyed that!

Momu finished a whole beer and a ton of pistachios so she was feeling fine.

I took her glasses home since the lense popped out - looks like a simple screw is all that is needed.

Off to the airport to pick up Dan who flew from Milan - Brussels - Montreal - Connecticut: I am sure he will be wiped out!

Friday, February 10, 2012

Thursday February 9, 2012

I arrived at 4:15 - Popa in bed, Momu watching TV and one of my favorite shows - Say Yes To The Dress.  It turns out we both love wedding stuff and both do not like strapless wedding dresses.

Momu's first words to me were: I am calling your father to have him come tomorrow (i.e. today/Friday) to take us home.  I told her she is not going home and the doctors are still evaluating her.  She then said "what doctors, there are no doctors here".  I said of course there are and they are still running some tests.  She said they hadn't seen her and I then said she just did not remember they had seen her.

I brought her a beer and olives.  I also brought over some orange slices - the chewy candy version, and some hershey kisses.  She loves the chewy candy stuff and was happy to see them.  Popa asked what I had to eat so I gave him 2 kisses.  I need to ask him what he really wants to eat.

Popa was half asleep the entire time; Momu and I watched TV.  Momu asked me to bring her another silver ring because her 'Z' one is too tight.  She then asked me the same thing about 3 minutes later.

It was 4:55 and I asked them if they were going to the dining room.  Momu said no, Popa popped up and said, YES, I don't want to eat in this room.  I told Momu she could stay behind, but she of course did not and they both went to the dining room.  Chicken Marsala.  Momu did mention she had an incident with the waitress about Popa's spitting.  Momu claims the waitress was rude - I don't buy it.

No visit for me on Friday - have a doctors appt after work.  Will check back in on Saturday, assuming we don't get very much snow.

Monday, February 6, 2012

Monday, February 6, 2012

Momu called me around 1:00 pm this afternoon telling me not to come visit today. She said she was in a very depressed mood and would not be good company. I normally ignore her when she gets like this but today I decided to respect her wishes.

I have concluded her dramatic mood swings are a result of a specific 'trigger' - today is was about Popa's lack of bowel control.

I know Momu would appreciate phone calls and visits from friends and family.

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Saturday February 4, 2012

I arrived at MB at 3 with treats: 2 pabst beers and pizza goldfish for Momu. A chocolate milkshake with whipped cream for Popa. Also brought pistachios and candy.

Momu devoured the pizza flavor goldfish while drinking beer.
I had to force Popa to drink his shake. But he did have 2 peppermint patties.
Momu said he dropped down to 129lb. I checked with nurse and he was 127.8 on 2/2/12. They will follow up with head nurse.

Same stories about renting rooms, maybe taking driving lessons, getting another cat.

Then I turned the TV on and Guy was on with the Diner, Driveins and Dives - momus favorite.

Left at 4:30 for much needed yoga.

May take Momu to lunch tomorrow - no promises

Friday, February 3, 2012

Friday February 3, 2012

Dan was nice and went to MB this afternoon. His scheduled allowed for that, while mine has been a bit busy and I wouldn't have been able to get their tonight.  Dan is off to Italy tomorrow so I will be on my own next week for visits.

Momu is insistent on my returning her new shoes.  I will take them from her tomorrow and will figure something out for getting her different ones.  It is not a big deal.

Popa was sleeping when Dan got therer, but was dressed.  Momu had a shower and was just getting her makeup on - it was around noon.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Tuesday January 31, 2012

It was 55 degrees and sunny today!  Crazy weather.
Dan went to MB solo tonight (I had to work) and arrive just around 6pm.  He brought some doughnuts with him.  Popa woke up, ate one doughnut and went back to sleep. He did not even say hello, what brings you here. He was still spitting up a storm.
Summary:
1. They ate in their room, Momu does not want to go to the dining room anymore.
2. She will go home and take care of both of them, she will be fine.
3. She has a new idea of renting out 2 rooms to college students.
4. Her new shoes are too small.
5. Popa was awake for about 5 seconds.
6. Momu needs her glasses checked, lenses are loose.

Friday Saturday Sunday January 27,28 and 29, 2012

Dad came for the weekend and he and I had a meeting with Amy (social worker) on Friday afternoon.  It was all about updates on Momu and Popa and about how to approach the 'going home' question that Momu says almost daily.  Long story short - the approach is (and it is not a lie) is that the doctors are still evaluating Momu to determine her current state and some more tests will be run during the upcoming weeks.  She needs 24/7 care and poses a risk to be unsupervised.  Nothing we did not know already.  Amy had that same discussion with Momu on Friday afternoon, but by Saturday she had forgotten - so bottom line is just go with the flow.

The new bed arrived and the room has been re-arranged.

Dad took them both out for dinner on Friday - local pub across the street - he said it was not that bad, Popa controlled his spitting habit.

On Saturday we both took Momu to TJMaxx for a little shopping outing.  She got some new black mary jane shoes, a bed spread and some candy. She was pretty happy - but totally pooped afterwards.

Dad took them both out for Chinese food on Saturday night and said it was the worst experience ever - Popa's habits were totally out of control and Momu was getting very upset.  While she enjoys going out, I think it may be with out him in the future.

Momu wore her new shoes to lunch on Sunday.

Thursday January 26, 2012

Dan and I arrived around 4:10 - both were awake and tv was on.  I told Momu that Hunter was sick so their trip would be postponed a few weeks.  She was extremely disappointed.  But I reminded her that Dad was coming so that made it a bit better.

Momu was in 'lets go home mode' today. She wants Dad to take her kitchen table and easel home.  Then when they are able to leave MB she asked me to drive them home.  I truly ignored her comments.  Momu did acknowledge that Popa was not eating anything.  I told the nurse and they are aware.

The phychiatrist (spelling?) came in to speak to Momu - they were gone for about 10 minutes.  Then she asked Dan and I to step into the hallway.  She told us that Momu really does not want to stay.  The doctor is ordering some neuro physh tests because in the 10 minute interview she was only border line dimentia.  Then she asked us about some basic history so we explained how she ended up at MB and that helped the doc alot.  She knows Dad and I are meeting with Amy (social worker) tomorrow which is why she did Momus quick assessment today.  She agreed no way can she care for Popa at home.  In fact, based on how the test results come back, Momu MAY be able to leave but w/only 24/7 care.  But the better thing that Momu told the doctor was there was no way she would leave w/out Popa.  Momu's 'go home' trigger today was really about getting Popa home to be seen by their doctor because of his lack of eating.

Thats all until tomorrow - thankfully the policitcal arena is keeping Momu quite content.

Tuesday January 24, 2012

I had about a 20 min visit today. When I arrived momu told me Donna was coming. I thought she had her days mixed uP because it was already 4:00

They were both dressed and awake. I reminded Momu about The State of the Union address tonight. But since she was glued to MSNBC she knew about it and immediately started in about the Republican 'babies'

At 4:35 Donna did arrive! We finally met and I left so they could enjoy their visit! Donna came with cupcakes but more importantly some beer.

Sunday January 22, 2012

Dan and I arrived at 1:00 not sure what to expect given momu called me yesterday to tell me not to come because she was feeling low and did not get dressed. Popa was awake and talking to Dan. Momu was sleeping but dressed. About 10 min later she woke up and told me she has given up on Popa.

Popa was in good spirits and kept asking what day it was and where he was. He does know that we only live 5 miles away.

I brought a cold beer for Momu and opened it as soon as she woke up. I also brought her another James Patterson book. She likes the gory quick reads.

I turned her on the the show Toddlers and Tiaras - great show if you really need a good laugh!

No mention of going home.

Wednesday January 18, 2012

I arrived at 4 with Loreal Hair Dye - Medium Auburn Red in hand.  Momu was walking around when I opened the room door - Popa fast asleep and snoring.  He stayed that way through my entire visit.  Momu covered him more with one of the blankets I gave them - his hands were freezing cold.  I kept telling her to not wake him up and she agreed.

We chatted about misc stuff most of which are the same things:
1. She will get another cat to keep kitty company when they get home and she will name this cat 'Katie'
2. She is going to place an ad in the paper hoping to get 2 BCC students to rent 2 of their bedrooms to provide income - she needs the money to pay for Home In Stead care.
3. She talked alot about her school classes - specific teachers in fact.  One of which made her put her gum (chewing was not allowed) on the tip of her nose.  Her nose was not yet big then she said.

Then we got around to talking about math and she said one of her friends could add all the numbers down - I said, yeah, that is how you are supposed to do it - she looked at me with a blank stare and said 'really' I thought you were supposed to add the numbers from bottom to top.  I said, that is why you were bad in match!  Then we laughed.

She said that Stephanie had called her today to check in on them - Momu told her about Popa being sick with a cold and his child like actions.

They continue to eat in their room - she does not want to be around the sick old folks.

I remind her every visit that Dad, Heather and Hunter will be here next Friday.  I told her I would buy crayons and paper so Hunter can color at the kitchen table.

I wrote down the time and television station for Criminal Minds tonight - I really think she will love this show!

Momu had started to write down a telephone # for a hearing aid company she saw advertised - she said they looked good.  She really wants something that works, that is clear so we may need to take her someplace local and get her a good working pair - but really not sure the ones she has don't work.

On my way out I signed her up for a Hair Salon appt for tomorrow.

Monday January 16, 2012

Phillip is home for 2 days so he went with me to MB today. We arrived at 3:45 and both M&P were awake watching Foodnetwork. They were both very happy to see Phillip.

We chatted about food and cooking. We watched a chef make meatballs so she kept telling us about her meatballs. She would mix the ingredient and Popa would roll them. Then she kept asking Popa if he would make meatballs when they got home. Of course he said yes. But after talking about meatballs 3 times she said he does not have the energy to make them any more. Somehow garlic bread came up so I am going to bring Momu garlic bread tomorrow.

She asked me to get her hair dye and she would write me a check to reimburse. I told her the checkbook is on its way!

She said she would be getting another cat when they got home.

We saw some commercials - one of which was for Pajama Jeans. Momu then talked about how she could not believe someone would want to wear jeans to bed. And that a nightgown is what the girls should wear to bed. She said nobody would buy the pajama jeans - little does she know!

They were going to eat in their room - Popa still coughing and Momu does not feel like being around old people. I don't think they have been to the dining room in a week. But they do enjoy having their kitchen table!

Saturday January 14, 2012

Dan is traveling so I am solo thru Friday. I arrived at MB at 3:45 with some salty Pringles for momu. Turned out to be a good thing because today was a Momu being depressed day. She was still in nightgown. She is depressed because Popa is a child and not the brilliant man he was.

Within a few minutes she was much better as she munched on BBQ Pringles.
Stories today were:
1. Getting her license
2. Townsand Harris School
3. Fat Americans

Popa still has a cough and absolutely no appetite. And he is spitting like crazy.

I told Momu that the Miss America pageant is on tonight at 9 and I will ask the nurse to make sure she puts tV on abc.

Momu was cheerful when I left and told me she loved me. She also has plans to finish the Obama painting because she wants to mail it to him!

Wednesday January 11, 2011

When we arrived this afternoon momu was watching politics and popa in bed. He is sick with a c and cough and was spitting up a storm. I said "oh you have a cold" and he replied "I don't know"
Momu received a Package from Dad with lots of jokes. But she was expecting her checkbook. She was angry.

I also heard that she will rent out rooms to 2 BCC students for a year.

The double bed has arrived but it is not in their room yet because the sheets are not hear yet.

To avoid getting sick we left about 40 minutes after we arrived.

Saturday/Sunday January 7th and 8th, 2012

A few words from Dad who visited MB this weekend.  He brought their kitchen table to their room on Sunday.  The double bed is expected to arrive this week:
  • They were too tired to play boggle on their kitchen table and Poppa just starred and they said he didn't feel well.
  • Brought pizza from across the street around 3 PM since Poppa wouldn't eat any lunch and Momu was upset; she ate it all he took a few bites and then spit in it.
  • I told them Hunter and Mark were coming up on Friday, January 27th and I would pick them up at airport and drive them over and I would see if my two Chrises might visit on the weekend.
  • I put on a CD and Poppa seemed to like although it's hard to know since his eyes are closed - driving Momu nuts.
  • Momu watched two John Wayne westerns and understands that the Indian were the good guys.
  • She also missed the Republican debates since I called just after you texted me and Poppa found the channel and didn't tell her.
  • It's harder and harder to see Poppa in this declining state.
  • Momu hopes they are both around for their 75 anniversary for a huge party at the golf club - never happen.
  • I tried to get her to start painting but all she did was exchange the new pallet for her older larger one.

Thursday January 5, 2011

Samantha visited MB this afternoon. Popa is sick and lost his voice. He asked Samantha for an Ensure about 6 times in a row.

Momu apparently spoke to Joanne and said the reason Kitty was mean was because she was lonely. Now that Kitty has other cats around she purrs alot. So Momu told Samantha that when she gets home she will get a 2 year old cat because she does not need another kitten. She repeated this cat story to Samantha 4 times in a row.

Momu talked to Samantha about her checkbooks, etc. etc. Samantha said Momu talked alot about going home and that she was going to call the driving teacher to get her license again. She still does not know why we got rid of the car!

They decided to eat in the room to allow for more visit time with Samantha.

Momu requested a game of scrabble - which Samantha and I will play tomorrow after work.

Monday January 2, 2012

Around 4pm Momu called me to apologize for her behavior yesterday. She told me she was sad because Popa fell asleep at 10pm New Years Eve and she was lonely. She then said next time she would just get into bed with him and go with the flow.

I picked Mark up at the airport and we arrived at MB at 5:45 to find M&P in the dining room and in very good spirits!!

We chatted in the dining room for 40 minutes and then ventured to their room, where Samantha was waiting for us with cold beer.

We video chatted with the Florida kids and then Dad. Popa commented how 'cool' the iPad was!

We left to snow flurries around 7:30

Sunday January 1, 2012

Dam, Samantha and me arrived at MB at 4pm. Popa was excited to see us. Momu was in bed, in nightgown asking the nurse door a Xanax. Unfortunately she already had one and had to wait until 8pm to get another one. We did open a can of beer, but since she rolled over and turned away from us and was depressed we decided to not force it and we left. If this continues we will take Popa out to the main lobby and visit with him there.
