Saturday March 31, 2012

Dan and I went over this afternoon.  They were both in bed but quickly got up and even Popa came over to sit in the chair.  He lasted 10 minutes and then went back to lie down.

Momu continued with her plan of teaching ESL and having Popa tutor math - Dan turned to her and said, "I don't think he is going to be tutoring anyone anytime soon" as Popa was lying in bed.  Momu said he would snap out of it.  She continues to talk about going home - I really either just ignore her and talk about something else, or if she is persistent (which she has not been at all) I will say she needs to talk to the doctor.

I learned today that Popa's aunt had a vegetarian restaurant in New York - interesting.

Any family or friends reading this - calls to The Krasnows are appreciated - their cell phone had no activity except for one call from Dad earlier this week.

My visits are becoming less frequent as a result of trying to juggle work, my race training activities, my doctor treatments for my back, etc.  I feel extremely guilty only going 2 or 3 times a week and really hope others find some time to visit now that the weather is getting nice.

Monday March 26, 2012

Phillip and I went over to MB and had a nice visit.  Momu was chatty again today - I played her a video that Dad had ask me to play for her.  She laughed.  I gave her a beer for her after dinner drink.  She then referenced the fact if she were home she would be able to have her beer and gin - she basically said she just felt a bit captive at MB.  I told her I understood.

Momu is reading  a book about Sid Caesar (probably spelled wrong) so she referenced comedians quite a bit today and on Saturday.  Today, however, she stated she was reading the book at least 6 times in the time we were there.

I forgot to mention that Momu cut Popa's hair - it is as short as when the hairdresser did it and Momu agreed to the fact she was losing her touch.  We laughed about it, he as one big bald spot on the right side of his head.

Popa asked when Dad was coming for a visit next - I said I did not know but said he called today.  Popa did not remember and then said, oh yes, I think I did speak with him today.  We then talked about how the  brain is powerful and funny - that there long term memory is pretty good but they both can't remember what they did 4 hours ago - they both agreed.

She gave me 2 pair of pants back that she bought when Chris was visiting - she said there were too low on the waste.  I returned them and got a store credit that she can use later - I will take her at some point.

They have a new gentleman sitting at their dining room table - he is 102 and is very talkative which is great.

Not much else going on today - until next time...

Saturday March 24, 2012

All 3 of us (Dan, Phillip and me) went to visit. For a change their door was open. Popa in bed and momu reading in her chair.

They were both in upbeat moods. Momu referenced going home. This time she said she would teach ESL to kids while popa tutored math - this will bring income in. She said her previous idea of having college students renting rooms has changed because she did not want anyone living in the house.

Lots of stories about lots or random stuff but all good memories for her.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Dan and I went over for a quick afternoon visit - lights out, hot as hell in the room, popa sleeping and momu in the bathroom.  I told them I wanted to sit outside before their dinner, Momu said she was too tired and started to get back into bed.  But as we started to chat, she got up and sat in a chair.  She said her shoulder was feeling better and the therapist gave her exercises to do in her room.  She was full of repeated stories/facts today.  Dan and I are still amazed at how the brain works and that she can say the same thing multiple times w/in a minute and not even know.

Todays stories were about going home, getting a cat, having college students live in the house for income, etc.  I then told her she needed 24 hour care and college students are not equipped to do that. She said she would use the room fee and pay for care but I said she needed more than a few hours a day.  She just brushed it off.  Morale of the story is it does not matter what we say because she retains absolutely nothing in the short term.  Long term is another story as she began to explain the plot of the movie 'sleepless in seattle'. Wow.

Still no fix on hearing aids - nobody was around to ask as the nurses were tending to dinner as we left.  Will iniquire next time.

Tuesday March 13, 2012

Because of my schedule I made a rare after dinner visit in between activities.   They were finishing dinner and I encouraged them to go outside since it was still 67 degrees. Popa got cold after 15 minutes so we went inside but stayed in the lobby area.

I delivered their candy as requested.

Momu was in rare form of story repeats today - some old, some new, but each was repeated at least 4 times- but she was happy and talkative which is all good. Popa pretty silent and really tired looking. Momu did tell me she forced him outside earlier today after lunch which is great!

I did not know that my Dad had a parakeete or a dog (which had flees apparently).

She thought that because dad did not hear any negative things from her recent blood test she got to go home.  I told her NO and that they are still evaluationg her and she has a meeting with all the doctors and staff in a few weeks.  She did not press the issue at all.

We had a nice visit.  I am wondering if they changed her meds because the past 2 weeks have been pretty darn good.

Sunday March 11, 2012

What a glorious day - I took Phillip, Lucy and Daisy over to MB for a vist.  I took M&P outside and we sat in the courtyard for over an hour - it was great.  The dogs were free to roam around since there was nobody else outside.

Momu was using her cane and looked pretty steady today.  She said she was mad at Popa today but did not tell me why.  I asked him and he said "she is always mad".  Momu said she was going to get pizza when she got home, so I immediately ordered a pizza from across the street.
We went inside and they enjoyed their pizza and the cold beer I had brought for her.
Popa ate about 1/2 of a small slice while Momu ate 2 large slices and gave some of that to the dogs.  I left them in the nice light dining area as I said goodbye.  I told Momu they had books in this room, so she was looking around and said they would walk back to their rooms later.

Tomorrow I need to replenish the candy - it is gone.  More black licorice and reeses on order.

Thursday March 7, 2012

I walked into a sauna this afternoon. I raced from work to home to MB to get here in time to take them outside. Only to arrive and Momu had a bad pain in her side. The nurse came into check her and gave her some Tylenol for the pain.

I then realized Momu had Popas khaki pants on and boy did we get a good laugh at that.

As requested I brought Momu black licorice and Reese's and Kit Kats for Popa.

Momu's pain was better as I left but we did not get a chance to sit outside.

Tonight they will be attending a jazz music concert after dinner.

Wednesday March 7, 2012

I brought over momu's new cell phone - she liked the bigger buttons.
I also brought her some new under garments and she promised to try them on.
I told them I am forcing them outside tomorrow before dinner - supposed to be 60 degrees.
We chatted about misc things - she is now content with her checkbook situation. She absolutely loved the weekend visit with Paul, Paula, Chris and Dad. She is still happy about her new clothes. Actually she was happy in general today.

Popa lost a tooth that hopefully will be fixed when the dentist sees him.
Momu said she goes to physical therapy daily for her shoulder - I need to ask nurse about that frequency. Momu also used her cane versus walker today. She says she needs to practice with the cane before going home.
