Saturday April 28, 2012

Dan and I went for a visit.  Both were in bed when we arrived.  Dad had mentioned he could not get ahold of them by cell phone or room phone.  The cell phone was off.  I turned it on and put the charger in.  I told Momu that in order for the cell phone to work it had to be turned on, she laughed.

Popa is still not eating much at all.  Momu got her hair done on Thursday and it looked fine - she was happy with it.

I wanted to take them outside in the courtyard, but Popa said he was too cold.  So the compromise was to sit in the lobby, which we did.  Momu loves that area and I think really likes the fact that means Popa can't lie in bed.  It is still quite uncomfortable for Popa to sit, but he managed.

Dinner tonight was lasagne and he promised to eat.  I would ask him tomorrow but he won't remember.  I think I will bring him another BLT at my next visit.

Momu said she won't have beer since the doctor told her to stay away from fizz and it was not worth the pain.  I may see if she will have a small glass of wine, but if not, she knows she has her gin at the nurses station.  She said the xanax was good enough and helps her sleep.

That is all, uneventful visit - but they are always happy to see us and Popa always, from the minute we get there, asks the same 2 questions:  are you staying for dinner and will we see you tomorrow.

Tuesday April 24, 2012

Phillip and I stopped to get 2 B.L.T. sandwiches and off to MB we went. Traffic was crazy and the sandwich maker took a while and I was running late from work so we did not get there until 4:30. We walked to their room only to find out they were already in the dining room - so early?

They were happy with the sandwich but had to wait to eat until dinner started because there was no CNA in the dining room yet and I learned there has to be to respond if something happened.

They both snuck bites of the sandwich until 5:00 came. Popa pulled off all the crust and ate almost 1/2. Momu ate her entire 1/2. I took the 2nd one home for tomorrow - hope it will still be good for them.

We chatted for a little while and then left.

Still no word on her hearing doctor appt.

Saturday April 21, 2012

I went to MB solo this afternoon.  Momu called me on Friday night asking me to bring her hair color so I stopped at CVS on my way and got her hair color and some pringles.  Momu was happy with the color and I asked her if she had put in the slip for her hair appt and she did not know what I was talking about.  So I filled out the appt slip for her and she will get her hair done on Tuesday.  We chatted a bit before heading outside.  Momu said she wanted to go home already, but that was only after she was talking about how MB controlled the amount of gin she was allowed to have.  I then asked her if she wanted to go home alone and she said no.  I said she had to make a list of pros and cons and being with Popa was a top pro and she agreed.  She then was talking alot about her mother and father and some other friends and family.  She said she was going to call Mario on Sunday.  She also said that Donna did come for a visit on Friday night.

It was a lovely afternoon today so we sat outside for about 45 minutes.  Popa is having a very hard time sitting upright - he has no strength at all so it is hard for him to stay upright.  Momu kept saying how he has no appetite.  So I asked him what he wanted to eat and Momu then chimed in with how she wishes she could make him a BLT and when Popa heard that his face lit up.  So I will be bringing BLTs over tomorrow.  I showed them lots of pictures of the Florida youngsters and they really really want them to visit.  The courtyard is great and the kids could bring chalk and run around as much as they wanted.

Until tomorrow....

Thursday April 19, 2012

I worked late so Dan and Phillip went over to MB.  They brought with them some candy and also the tv ear phone cushions and piano book that Dad mailed to me.

They both wanted to go the lobby, so Dan and Phillip took them outside the courtyard.  Momu kept referring to the lobby as 'downstairs'.  They sat outside until dinner time.  (I don't know why my pictures are sideways)

Momu said she was feeling better - she said the doctor told her no more 'fizz' meaning soda.  She asked for her checkbook, but did not reference anything about needing it for when she goes home.

Momu told Dan and Phillip that Donna was coming for a visit tonight - not sure if that is accurate.

Monday April 16, 2012

Dan and I arrived at MB at 4 - Popa fast asleep and Momu in the bathroom. Popa was pretty out of it and had a hard time speaking - he was slurring his words. He asked me to get him a shake which I did - he proceeded to drink a few sips and then the disgusting spitting started and did not stop.

I asked him if Momu was feeling ok and he thought she was not. He wasn't sure if she got dressed today - he thought yes. Dan and I stayed waiting for Momu to come out. About 15 minutes later we heard very loud moans from the bathroom and thst is when we said goodbye to Popa.

I checked with the nurse on my way out and they did cut back Momus iron from 3 daily to 1.

Tuesday and Wednesday April 10 and 11, 2012

Dad's 2 day visit.....

Dad spent Monday night in Pittsfield at their home to have plumbing fixed then drove over to Meadowbrook on Tuesday morning to spend two days with Momu and Poppa. Momu was dressed and smiling and Poppa fast asleep as unusual but when awaken seemed pleased that Dad was there. He ate lunch with them and met their new friend Leon, a 102 year old congenial man. The family spent time in the patio and the lobby living room and all was OK until Momu developed her side of stomach pain and went to lie down in her room. Around 4:30 she was better and wanted to go out to dinner, which was OK with Dad. Since Poppa doesn't eat much these days and losing weight Chinese food was the selection to help him eat. Unfortunately, the restaurant we chose didn't serve beer or liquor so we left. Momu's pain returned as we drove to the Cambridge House Bar and Grill. She wanted to go in but sat in the car as Poppa and Dad navigated the long winding ramp. Poppa sat in the lobby as Dad checked on Momu for the next 15 minutes...no go, so he took out food and drove back to Meadowbrook, just across the street. Poppa ate with dad and when Momu's pain subsided she also ate some dinner.

The next day dad arrived arrive around 10:30 and Momu was in bed with dad both sleeping. When dad woke them up she was depressed...Poppa had soiled the bed last night and she was disgusted with him saying "I;m going home without him...he's not the man I married, etc. etc. etc." After she dressed herself she seemed a bit better and when dad gave her the earrings Christine sent she was back to normal...she loved them all and said she will call her Christine to thank her. We then went to lunch and Leon was at another table to make room for me.. The grilled chicken sandwich and macaroni salad was good but Poppa once again ate almost nothing. The patio was next followed by watching a video of "Il Volo" in their room. These three Italian teenagers are amazing opera singers and Momu loved it, especially when they sang "Mama". Poppa was asleep throughout the showing.

Momu was suffering off and on all day with her side pain but around 4:30 said she felt fine and wanted to go out to dinner. Dad drove to the Cambridge House and Momu and Poppa negotiated the ramp with the help of dad. Momu was totally out of breathe and sat outside for a while dad and Poppa were seated at the table. Momu joined the family and drinks were ordered (martini for Momu and dad needed a martini too). Momu developed her pain once again after we ordered dinner and spent the next 15 minutes in the bathroom. When she came out she insisted on waiting in the car and dad accompanied her and returned to Poppa at the table. Dad and Poppa shoved down their food and wrapped the rest to go, leaving behind Momu's martini. When they returned to Meadowbrook Momu and Poppa sat in the lobby as dad checked them in and placed food in their room. Momu was feeling better and dad headed by to my house for an hour of rest before leaving for home.

These amazing episodes actually produced, for the first time a comment from Momu "I guess I'm better off here"...perhaps a breakthrough. Dad informed the nurse of this entire two day event and she will run tests on Momu in the morning.

Monday, April 9, 2012

Phillip and I went over this afternoon - Momu's left side is really hurting again - the nurse came in and is pretty sure it could be constipation, but Momu insists that it is not.  In any event, the nurse was going to give her 2 stool softeners as party of her evening medicine since Momu did not want to take any milk of magnesia.  They are also going to stop the iron pill tonight since that is also very binding.  Bottom line is that Momu needs to drink through out the day and she does not.  She also doesn't walk, so sitting with no liquids is a recipe for disaester.

Popa seems to be aware of his weight from yesterdays weigh in and drank a milk shake and had oreos while we were visiting.  He said he just has to force the meals down and has to gain some weight back.  He is not looking all that great.  Very thin.

The Kindle is going back - Momu liked the device, and could not believe how light it was, but  had a hard time pressing the page turn buttons and also said she prefers paper.

They were dining in their room this evening because of her pain.  She continues to yell at him with his bad habits.  While I try to intervene and tell her he can't control  I will say the spitting is a bit much and pretty gross.  But the good news is he knows to do it directly into the garbage can.

I checked to find out when her hearing test was going to happen and because it was dinner time, the staff was busy with meal feedings, etc so they will check and let me know next time.

They both received letters from the State of Connecticut confirming they are now registered to vote in CT for the next election.  I am guessing this was prompted by the Medicaid process.

Sunday April 8, 2012

The Easter Bunny brought some treats - cold beer, popcorn, jelly beans, Swedish fish and candy fruit slices. Dan, Phillip and me had an afternoon visit - we watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

We actually joked a bit today about various things one being 'age' - Momu really wants Popa to 'snap out of it'. I said he is 95! and she said 'so'. I said people age differently and they should be thankful they both know who each other is! She agreed!

At 3:00 the nurse came into weigh both of them....Momu is 109. Popa at 126 (Proof he is not eating)

I showed them both pictures of Mark at Law School graduation, Hunter and Maya at their lemonade stand and Max and his finger puppets and also at baseball game. They loved seeing the pictures!!

I showed Momu the small kindle and I told her I am getting it for her. She said fine until she asked how much it was. I am getting it anyway and will just tell it was $20 bucks.

That's it for now

Friday April 6, 2012

Popa called around 5:20 and left a voicemail on my cell- he told me not to come because Momu was not feeling well. Momu was in the background telling him what to say. He also said to call back letting him know I got the message - I called back and of course they did not answer.

Based on the time they called it means they did not go to the dining room and I am sure that means momu did not get dressed.

I will check in tomorrow

Wednesday April 4, 2012

Dan got on an earlier flight home so we both went to MB this afternoon. M@P both in good spirits. The both had their eye exams today. Now just waiting for the hearing doctor to come hopefully soon.

Snack delivery today included pistachios, kit Kats, and Pringles. I also brought Momu a book called Year of Wonders - about the flu plague in 1918. She remembers that event and this book is very good so I know she will enjoy it.

Speaking about reading - I did one last tour of all the silent auction baskets - I was outbid on all the baskets I bid on yesterday - I rebid on one wine basket and then bid on a basket I missed yesterday - a Kindle basket - if I win I will give to Momu - she will love it and I have a flash drive of 1200 books to chose from. If I don't win I may buy one for her anyway.

Fun conversation today - we joked a lot - I demonstrated some yoga balance moves and Momu and Popa were impressed.

Lots of stories about her family

Good visit

Tuesday April 3, 2012

I made the mistake of telling Momu I was getting my pistol permit for recreational target shooting.  She got very upset and called Dad on Sunday all worried.  She left me a message today on my cell and wanted to explain why she got so upset next time I visited.  So I went over today and told her I changed my mind. She was relieved and then explained how she was held up in an elevator and it was very very scary.

As of last night, Momu's pulse oxygen level has been a bit low and she used oxygen last night.  Today she looked a bit tired and she told me it feels like she just went for a run and is out of breath.  I had the nurse check the level prior to dinner and it was again low at 92, but anything above 90 is ok to be mobile.  The nurse said they heard some stuff in her chest, so she may have a some bronchitis and will monitor.

MB is having a silent auction fundraiser.  There are 48 baskets out in the lobby for people to bid on.  I placed 4 bids for only the baskets that had some wine in them.  The auction ends tomorrow - there were alot of bidding activity, which is good for MB but I am sure that means I won't win (donate) any money.

Momu agained talked about teaching ESL and Popa tutoring math - I said I don't think that is going to happen and pointed to Popa in bed.  She said, oh yeah, not that Popa, the other more alert Popa can still teach.

I told her I got stuck in traffic for 30 minutes on my way over because of a car accident.  That triggered her talking about getting her drivers license again.  I flat out said she would not be driving again.  She said "you don't think so" and I said "I no so, not going to happen"
